DP1 Compatible with RED Battery Plate

November 19th, 2009

We’ve heard reports lately that the DP1 can and will operate using a power tap from the RED battery plate. I know lots of you were asking about support for the AUX power port from the RED itself, so now there is a solution!

I know it’s not perfect — some of you still want support for powering straight from the RED, but hey, we’ll get there.

I used the DP1 with a RED not too long ago, with a makeshift power converter i made from parts. It worked, but between the DP1 and the RED, those RED batteries were draining faster than your nose during allergy season. Our theory — if you’re already lugging a camera like RED around, you can afford the extra .5lbs of the DP1 battery weight. Be nice to those expensive RED batteries. BUT, those who really don’t like that approach, the DP1 is compatible with the RED battery plate.

We don’t carry that specific cable right now, but we’ll be looking to do that in the future. In the meantime, all you need to do is get the Power Tap end for the RED battery plate, and splice a standard 5.5mm OD, 2.1mm ID barrel connector to it, and you’re off and running.

The DP1 Field Bundle and new Screen Protectors now available!

October 6th, 2009

It’s been a long time coming, but we now have the new DP1 Field Bundle available in our store! We know how frustrating it can be when shopping online to see one price and then see that price inflate as you progress through the checkout process with shipping, handling or whatever else…
DP1 Field Bundle
Enter the DP1 Field Bundle. The DP1 Field Bundle includes:

  • A DP1 720P Field Monitor
  • Two (2) SmallHD Batteries
  • The Battery Bracket
  • Our revolutionary Sunhood – included FREE
  • The protective Neoprene Sleeve
  • … and introducing our NEW MATTE Screen protectors (pack of 4)

You get all this for $989 USD – which if you do the math means you’re getting our (should be award-winning) sunhood, free.

The kicker here is this is all inclusive. $989 gets you everything listed above, as well as FREE SHIPPING to anywhere in the world via UPS. And believe us when we say, depending on where you live in the world, this is a heck of an offer.

Also, the screen protectors are available in two varieties: Clear and Matte. For those who like the semi-glossy screen as it is and just want a layer of protection added to the LCD, the clear is for you. If you prefer the matte look, the new Matte Screen Protectors do a heck of a job converting it to a bonafide Matte LCD.

What are you waitin’ for… go, now!

Video Tutorials now in the WIKI!

July 8th, 2009

Hey all,

Just wanted to write to tell you all that the Video Tutorials for the DP1 and its accessories are now in the Wiki at http://www.smallhd.com/wiki/

We really want to provide our users with the best and quickest method to learning the ins and outs of the DP1. So instead of a long, diagrammy manual, we give you video tutorials — and we save trees, yay.

The tutorials are something we would really like to expound upon and will be diligently adding new ones as much as we can, so if there’s anything specific YOU would like to see in a video tutorial, email Lenny at warehouse@smallhd.com, and we’ll do our best to either answer it in the next Vlog post and/or as a formal video tutorial in the Wiki.

Thanks to everyone for participating and commenting — and remember, we’re always a short email away if anyone has any questions.
