First and foremost, the ultimate purpose of a field monitor is to be able to see what you are shooting. Shooting in HD and monitoring in SD is, we feel, a step in the wrong direction. That’s why even with a 5.6 inch screen, the DP6 delivers HD at 1280x800 resolution, making it the smallest HD monitor available. Simply put this means you truly see what you get, so there are no surprises in the editing room.

No matter how good a monitor is, if your camera doesn’t work with it then it probably won’t be very helpful to you. That’s why all the standard HD inputs– HDMI, Component and HD/SDI are available on the DP6.

Shooting on location often means rough conditions and packing light, two things that can take a toll on lesser-equipped... equipment. This in mind, rather than the industry-standard injection-molded plastic or bent sheet metal we chose to give the DP6 a solid, milled aluminum shell, making the unit both lightweight and extremely strong.

Auto aspect ratio detection to deal with any signal type, a highly accurate focus assist, preset and customizable image scaling, full RGB color controls, 1:1 pixel mapping – A lot of effort has gone into making sure these features are not simply buzz-words to cross off a list, but ones that truly improve workflow.

Having a monitor that is very capable can easily be soured if the user interface leaves much to be desired. With the DP6 we have spent a lot of time creating a menu and button system that work quickly and in a way that makes sense, with influence from the DSLR-style scroll wheel interface. With the addition of a customizable preset button, the features you use most are the ones you will never have to dig around for.

Buying new equipment can often be a hassle when it doesn’t want to play nice with the gear you already own. We have worked hard to ensure a number of options are available to make this a non-issue for the DP6, such as a 5D/7D battery plate, a D-Tap cable and a standard 7-18v input range on the monitor itself (with yet more options in the works) to alleviate any potential powering woes.

That sinking feeling when you purchase a high-end piece of electronics that gets an update the next day? We don’t like it either, so we decided to stick a USB port on the DP6 and include a 2GB flash drive with every order meaning it is field-updatable, so whenever we have updated firmware, you’ll have it too.

Every production comes with a unique set of needs, and we’ve made sure to accommodate for as many of those as possible with a range of innovative and useful accessories such as the click-in neoprene Sunhood, HDMI splitter, and snap-on acrylic screen protector.
